From idea to iPhone app…thanks to MJR Web
Boasting some of the UK's most seasoned Internet experts, MJR Web is passionate about creating new e-spaces and reaching new audiences. In July, the Lancaster-based web wizards took things to a whole new level, and ran their very own iPhone development course for budding builders.
It’s fair to say that the ‘Build an app in a Day’ workshop unearthed some real talent. With access to specialist tuition, exclusive online resources and passionate course leaders from the MJR Web talent pool, the event offered the perfect platform for anyone looking to switch on to iPhone development.
And now, MJR Web are proud to announce that the first app developed by one of their attendees has been launched… ‘VYView’ is now live and kicking on the app store!
The 'Voice Your View' project that spawned the app is all about tapping into the local insights of people who know a public space best. Mums know what makes a park safe (or not), while residents can pass on information about areas that may be unsafe at night. The beauty of making this service accessible as an app is that it removes the red tape and hassle involved in writing to MPs or calling hotlines. Instead, comments can now be collected in real time and stored in an online repository, before being passed on to other users, local community groups, local authorities and so on.
So, how does it work?
At the nudge of a touchscreen, you can comment on any public space you might find yourself in. Tell the world about litter in the street, express your concerns about poor lighting or wax lyrical about stunning architecture you come across.
The VYView iPhone App is also designed to let you snap photos as you go, which means you can share a ‘user-i-view’ of what you’re commenting on.
Here’s a summary of what the MJR Web course covered:
• Introduction to the Apple Developer Program
• Overview of the entire development process
• Usage of Xcode and Interface Builder
• App design considerations
• Develop an app in a day using the fundamental, and most common, elements of an iPhone app
• Improving the User Interface and testing your app on the simulator
• The distribution process
